There is a time and place for everything (Ecclesiastes 3), and the internet sure has provided us with a wide open landscape for 'everything.' But that beautiful poem goes on to say that there are contrasting seasons in life for diverse experience and expression.
These past four years have provided an abundance of time for grieved white people to express their opinions. And we have heard these loud and clear. In all humility, we are hoping for a little space for some of us to contemplate our experience, and sing our song.
Common Hymnal shares an empathy and a solidarity with those whose struggle has been unseen and unheard by the powerful because of a historic and long held system of levers and pulleys that have allowed privileged people to sustain power and live by a totally different set of rules, which we saw yesterday when we watched law enforcement taking selfies with armed and violent activists.
We would love for @CommonHymnal to be a safe space for the disenfranchised and the hurting to be able to find a little support, and to be able to call out to God for relief from their very real experience of injustice in this world.
