Just overall fretboard knowledge. I feel like I’m on the advanced side of intermediate and what’s holding me back from advanced is the discipline to really learn the fretboard to a point where improvising comes easily

It would be putting whatever is in the head into the fretboard as similarly as possible. As soon as I would start putting the notes on the fretboard the melody in the head would vanish or get replaced by other thoughts. Likely this is because of the lack of understanding of where the notes are or what sound comes after the current one on the string.
