Avi

Many have asked why I post multi-hour long marathon videos with highly technical content. Why don't I post short, 20 minute simplified videos like many others trying to disseminate information in the community?

Today I realized that this is something I'm really just not interested in. This is a hobby of mine and I want it to be fun. If this becomes more of a job than it is fun, I probably won't do as good of a job. I also realized today that I don't think my intended audience is really the average community.

There may indeed be times when I want to communicate with the community at large, but for the most part the brunt of my content speaks for itself. It's hours long, and it's very technical. It's clearly not intended for laymen. I have tried to have laymen checks (IE: Isaac, Richard) to stop me if they are not following so that others can follow, but even then it's clear that my content is not presented in a way that is optimal for the average person to consume. Today I realized that I don't actually want that to change. My intended audience is going to be primarily suited for non-laymen (who don't mind my abrasive personality of course), and let's be honest - it probably always was that way to begin with.

I understand this results in having a smaller audience, and I'm okay with that. I'd rather have a smaller audience doing what I love than a larger audience doing something that feels like a job. In terms of sending messages I want to the movement, perhaps I may be able to attract those within the vegan community to engage with my content, so that they will in turn send those messages in clear and digestible ways.

That being said, here are a list of plant based experts that I recommend for simple and easy nutrition information for laymen. In my interactions with them, they have shown to be good faith actors and seek the truth over ideology. They are:

1) Gil Carvalho MD PhD: youtube.com/c/NutritionMadeSimple
2) Jack Norris RD: veganhealth.org/
3) Danielle Belardo MD: www.instagram.com/daniellebelardomd/
4) Ginny Kisch Messina RD: www.theveganrd.com/
If you are looking for plant based nutritional information that is reliable and evidence based, these 4 are the individuals I recommend for the public.

As for me, well...keep watching if you want more of the same I guess.

@NutritionMadeSimple

thanks for the nom (!) and 100% agree it's crucial to find our personal communication style (Gary V calls it 'finding our voice') and be comfortable in our skin rather than trying to imitate someone else (not fun). there's room for many styles and personalities online and your stuff is enormously valuable in its own right. quality speaks for itself and the audience will surely grow

@WavyCarbs

Really appreciate the recs. and right on, there's plenty of us laypeople who will still sit through hours of feeling dumb until learning occurs.

@realDaveFeldman

Please continue, Avi. The only two long form media I’ve listened to consistently in the last 6 months are you and Joe Rogan. I’m very appreciative of what you’ve learned regarding atherosclerosis and the nuance in the testing employed to gauge its progression/regression, and how best to apply standards in this regard. If your true priority is in being a content creator, then yes, the right move is to scale back and simplify— but if your true priority is in better understanding and conveying the science as you’ve come to know it, then it’s certainly inevitable that it will be longform, and likely to get very technical. But the more you describe these things from different angles, the more your audience will be able to follow it. I for one strongly vote on your keeping to this format, and whether I agree with all of your conclusions or not, I am certainly more likely to recommend you directly as a source I’d trust to provide an unfiltered point of view.

I think many of us will appreciate the exposure to advanced statistics and research methodology. You’re a great source for information.

Your content is alright. I am personally more interested in your philosophical/ethical videos/debates but your empirical ones are always meticulous af and I appreciate them very much

@jenm1

Richard and Isaac aren't exactly the average laymen. They're both way too smart to use as a barometer

@James-zr1lu

There's a correlation between the length of your videos and the amount of false claims put forth. Not your fault.

@rafnaegels8913

I thought your vids were rather basic and short.

To be honest I don't think your talks are that technical, it's just that some people chose not to understand them on purpose...
