Esther Emery

Hello from the Little House. This channel has been silent for almost a year. I left it in a shambles, the way you leave the house in the morning not realizing you're not going to come back. Today I did come back and I saw that there is some work to do!

The skill of the month thing that I had planned last year didn't work out. I just came up against all these real life limitations -- my time, my skill level in various things, and my ability to meet my own self-imposed deadlines.

But also I realized that one thing people really want from me is for me to be my very real, honest self. No more and no less.

Information and skills are very helpful, useful things. But also the Internet is DROWNING in them. What is also needed is the inspiration, and the calm and present "why," and also the connective tissue between skills and goals.

I haven't given up on making the skill-of-the-month club library of skills. If I can get a few more of those videos made and organized, I'll put them back up in some way that makes sense and is available to all of you. But I can't rush that. My "Impossible Farm" needs to be actually working before I do that.

In the meantime, I'm going to let this channel be a place for hanging out and talking about things. Little things, ordinary things, and things that matter.

I don't know that there are a lot of people who need that. But maybe there are. And I am absolutely sure that there are a few. If you are one of them today, you are welcome here.

I promise to be here as my real, honest self. No more and no less. And I'll do my very best to show up on Thursdays. :)

With love from the Little House,
Esther

I love the real-life talks! I find much peace in them as I try to live out my own life with as much grace as I possibly can.

I can only imagine how much your family has grown in changed in the time you have spent offline. I read a post (on FB or IG?) where you said that you weren't' really living the homestead life, and I think we are all okay with that. Just dropping in to let you know we all really appreciate what you contributed to the public; not just you, but your husband, and your kids too.

I think I have watched every single video on your channel. You have been such an inspiration to me. I first watched one of your videos about a year ago and since then I have been inspired to follow your steps in being more aware of every aspect of my life. Finally after many month my husband agreed that a life of “off grid” or Self reliance “( I just call it living more aware and free) is the best decision for our family. We both disconnected from social media ( except for the occasional YouTube video) and we have slowly have been learning every skill we can muster until we are able to take the leap and find our “little house”. I so look forward to your skill of the month or your Thursday talks. Until then I will see ya on the impossible farm. 🙂

YouTube reminded me of you by showing a thumbnail. Your content helped me a lot in simplifying my life. I am now self employed and enjoy a free and simple life on my boat for some years now. Thank you for your part in that!

I found this channel through your Fouch-o-matic channel. Originally I was searching for information about living in a yurt. I do enjoy your Thursday talks and I have to give credit to Nick and you for my biscuit and gravy skills! Thanks for sharing

I'm new to your personal chanel, baking found you on fouch-o-matic. I admire your courage to walk away from your other life, to establish and grow in your new unchartered life. I look forward to reading your book next month, once I start my new adventure - retirement. Too old and tired to move off grid now. Sadly that wasn't really part of the possibilities when I was young enough. I will enjoy watching your family's journeys and will cheer you on in your succeses. I suspect that you will have patience and the fortitude to carry on when you have setbacks. Stay strong!

Got to thinking of y'all this past weekend (Homesteaders of America meet-up in Front Royal VA, I missed you were you intending to present again?) when at the Q&A a young family sought insights re: * self-build with children in tow. I managed to exchange emails with them in order to share your channel's URL re: wisdom of starting out in a yurt, also planning carefully around the land and its characteristics. Prayers that all is well with the wee ones and their cherished pa!

Just a note to let you know, I still go back to your off-grid family channel and review videos. You are in our heart & mind frequently hoping you and your family are doing well. I know you are caring for family needs at this time and I look forward to when you can come back to making videos for you channels again as your experience is so valued and needed more now than ever. Wishing you & yours a properous & blessed year. Love from NE Washington State.

I was researching your mom and came across your channel. Although I've watched a lot of the fouch videos, I didn't realize you had this channel. I wish you and Nick the best. It's hard to watch you and tons of other young homesteaders going through hardships and making mistakes that could be avoided if you had access to the experience of us oldtimers who have been there and done that and hopefully learned a thing or two. I grew up in the country where we produced all of our own food with the exception of flour and sugar. We didn't have an indoor toilet until I was about 13. I just wish I could share a lot of what I know with someone who wants to live a simpler lifestyle.
