Although i understand and may agree with the point that you make, i would like to say something. I didn't even know about the video and i think i won't even look for it, because i fear it will be even more cringey that i imagine. BUT saying that the root of the problem is a bunch of celebrities singing a feel-good song is maybe going too far. Moreover, i live in a working-class neighborhood and during the quarantine it was full of "everything is going to be ok" banners hanging out of the windows. Empty messages of optimism where basically everywhere during this last year and i don't think this case is any different except for the fact that Imagine itself is a more-than-the average-lame song. What i want to say, is that it may not be so hypocritical as it seems. It was an attempt to do something that has been done a million times, and it didn't work. But i don't think that it's really so different from what basically everybody has been doing, be it working or privileged class. That on the one hand. On the other hand, i'm pretty sure that blaming a couple of rich actors and artists may be even counterproductive. Furthermore, some of them have helped to make activism more visible and would perhaps give what they have for a more fair system (let's believe there are really rich people with good intentions). You are saying "eat the rich" and are going to end up eating a bunch of artists and doctors, and meanwhile Jeff Bezos will laugh from high above. These people doesn't control neither the means of production nor the culture. They may be rich and benefit from it but i don't even think they are the major perpetrators of capitalism.

Brilliant article it’s spot on. Need people like you in the world, real, funny and a fair bit cynical. No better combo and one I try to live by.

Great article! Fun read. You're prbly already aware but charles cornell a made a great youtube video where he fixes the song by playing all the key changes, since none of them are singing in the same key. It's awesome.

Maybe being exposed to someone like Moviebob just left me befuddled, but I didn't think someone who is, if not maybe a 'breadtuber' bc of lack of associates, clearly isn't from the centrist side of youtube would make a post like this calling out not-exclusively-right-wing-celebrity-BS
