I regularly go back and watch old videos from this channel. I've loved it ever since Lee over at Cinema Wins put me onto it. You take all the time you need, don't rush because you feel like have to put out content. We'll be here.

I'm gonna be honest with you: I really enjoyed MwM anyway because of the love to the craft that drips from any video. But how you shared not your best times with us, but the worst. That is actually what elevated you for me. Yes, I have not heard much of you this year, but boy did I feel connected with some people on the other side of the planet...

This year has somehow been 10x worse for me than the infamous 2020 so I can understand the sheer frustration at Murphy’s law turning 2021 into a playground. Hope things really do start to turn around for you both 🙏

Y'all have added so much joy to so many lives. It's heartbreaking to hear this news, and though it may not alleviate any of that pain, I hope that these comments bring you some joy too. FilmJoy is one of my favorite places because of the honesty and the deliberate turning towards the unpleasant, looking at it in a light that provides the perspective needed to appreciate the beauty in the message. There's an earnestness to your work that shows through. It's not just entertainment. It's shared joy. There's an understanding in your work. It points at experiences worth having. I appreciate you. The knee thing happened to me as well at nearly the exact same time. I hope you can at least take some solace in knowing your content helped me get through my own pain, even if you had to work through your own. My choice for 2021 movie is probably The Suicide Squad, but I also got to see The Muppet movie in a theater this year if that counts!

I feel for your struggle, and Im glad to hear you're in good spirits despite another cursed year. I've not done much better. Since July 4th my grandma died, I ruptured and detached my Achilles tendon, lost two jobs, lost my living arrangement,, and half of my family has caught Covid (also all survived thankfully). The rest of the year has gone similarly terrible. Stay strong. Stay beautiful. I love you guys and I can't wait to see you back at it again.

Hoping for the best for y'all - Movies With Mikey is one of my favorite bits on youtube, and I greatly appreciate your unique, eccentric and deep views on films, and that you have FUN doing it. Hello friends. It’s been a while.
You may already be aware that this year has been ruthlessly unkind to us, and this is an update about all the happenings around here.
To briefly recap for newer subscribers: In January I got some bad dental work done. It’s taken almost this entire year to correct but I finally got it fixed in mid-August. In February we lost the house in the ice storm. We didn’t get an insurance adjuster assigned until March and then we found out insurance wouldn’t cover all the repairs we needed to make to our very old house. We ended up taking out a loan to renovate and construction started in May.
In the meantime, we have been living in a very non disability friendly apartment about 20 miles away from our house with office space across the street. When we came here, we definitely had starry eyed ambitious ideas about what this was going to be like. I didn’t think about things like how far "across the street" actually is for my partner with MS or how much time it would take out of my day to drive across town for doctor appointments, meetings with contractors and checking the PO box. Or how many times per week I’d have to make these trips. (Spoilers, it’s almost every day).
Mikey has been in MS relapse since we got here. In July, he fell and fractured his kneecap which added a new layer of complications to our already stressful situation and then two weeks after that he tested positive for covid despite being fully vaccinated. (I tested negative twice) Luckily his vaccine was effective enough that he didn’t experience life threatening symptoms, but it was still very stressful not knowing if he was going to take a sudden turn.
Between anxiety and near constant pain from my teeth and his knee, we have not slept all the way through a night in seven months.
Despite this, we think we’ve succeeded at remaining in good spirits, but we have failed tremendously at doing our jobs and it’s a miracle we finished any videos at all. This year has been financially devastating for us and it’s only through the grace of Patreon supporters and people who bought merch that Filmjoy will survive 2021. We are overwhelmed by your support and feel like we will never be able to repay the generosity you all have shown to us this year.
The good news is that our house is done and we are moving home next week. Mikey will be able to start physical therapy, I won’t have to spend two hours a day running errands and we are very much looking forward to settling back into our old routine and focusing on creating content and doing what we love.
So, here’s where we are at right now in Filmjoy land:
The return of Deep Dive is imminent. Battleship is almost done, and I am working hard to get this to you before we move next week. We definitely did not expect this episode to take 6 months to edit but we hope you think it’s worth the wait!
Mikey is working on a MwM Fav 5 bracket tournament. This will be a 3-part video where he will take all the films covered in his Fav 5 videos over the last 7 years, revisit them with a 2021 lens and declare a winner. The first episode is already up on Patreon. When the series is complete, we will be releasing it back to back for three weeks to hopefully appease the algorithm gods.
We are also having a 25% off everything sale at catawampus.ink until September 13 when we have to pack everything up and move.
This year has been bad so far but we’re almost on the other side of it and hope we can finish strong. We know we missed a lot of good movies in the fray so drop your favorite movies of 2021 in the comments so we can check out anything we missed before Fav 5 of 2021 in January!
