When the music world was turned upside down last year, I was grateful to have the Solo Sessions project to work on. Aside from the fact that it kept me playing, it let me completely indulge in one of my passions, contemporary music, in my own way and in my own time. It was a project born out of love and everyone involved gave their time and hearts, purely for the sake of art.
This year I have decided to focus on another of my absolute passions. My Take a Breath project has been one of my great joys over the last few years, and teaching primary school-aged children breathing techniques to combat stress and anxiety seems like one of the most worthwhile things I could have done. Whenever I was on tour (back when I used to be on tour...), I would take the project to schools affiliated with whichever orchestra I was playing with, and I developed it with many wonderful schools in my home countries, the UK and Australia.
The man who initially sparked my passion for the science of breathing was Gerry Gajadharsingh - undoubtedly one of the world’s most respected authorities on breathing. Gerry and I believe that proper breathing can really benefit everyone, especially at this time. We have therefore compiled a series of videos about the science behind the breathing techniques we teach, which can benefit people of all ages.
We made this series of interviews a while ago, but now, with schools closing again here in the UK, it seems like the perfect time to share them with you all.
Please join me for the first video tomorrow, on my YouTube channel. I hope it brings some help in these times.
As ever, I’m grateful for the never-ending support of my wonderful management and @sonyclassical. Thank you, you beautiful people xxx
