HI Bill, thanks for your book! I just read it and it was joy that I found somebody with the same approach and philosophy about owing a car!! I find it so odd that there are so many people who made every effort to get an expensive looking car just to show off, but with heavy loan attached to it! Why? As you said in the book, there is a certain joy and happiness to drive an old but reliable car as it is care free without concern! I am glad to find that I am not alone!!! I have an 2000 Accord that runs like a dream super smooth and fast with 150k miles and a 2003 Odyssey that runs also like a dream with 220k miles. I replaced motor mounts on the Accord myself and shock absorbers on the Odyssey. I drop the transmission fluids with new Honda genuine fluids after realizing that they have never been replaced. I am one happy car owner!!

I own a 2007 Lincoln MKX with over 240,000 miles. Haven't had any major issues since I bought it. Regular PMI every 3 months and now using full synthetic oil

Most of my Toyota’s have lasted into the high 200k low 300k before either wrecking them or a costly repair not worth fixing. 1983 Celica 265k the AC gave out, 1994 Camry totaled at 290k hit a deer at 80mph, 1992 Previa sold due to front transaxle issues at 285k, 2003 Camry totaled at 330k by my son, 2005 Sienna 295k and still going but the AC recently gave out on that one too. I wouldn’t recommend the 2007 Camry though due to many problems.

A few years ago I bought a '94 Caprice wagon with 136k on it for $1600 -- it was a solid, rot-free car sold by a dealer who specialized in buying those cars cheap due to easy to repair damage from southern New England. Mine had had the LR quarter caved in - did not damage side window or taillight - he had passable repair done -- I drove it 65k trouble free miles and sold it for $1000 -- best $600 ever spent on use of a car -- wish I had kept it!

Any car can last forever given that you throw enough money at it, but a vehicle has to be financially feasible to put repairs into and be as cheap as possible in the first place.
