Overcoats

The card that accompanies this song depicts a man at a desk, surrounded by paperwork, burning the midnight oil. In the foreground we stand with our palms mirrored, desperately seeking to understand the male domination of our industry.
YJSTS speaks to our frustration with the stagnancy of certain things in the world right now. In the era of #metoo, we have this sense collectively that we are making progress. But this song talks about those people who refuse to change, while the world attempts to evolve around them. There are so many microaggressions in the industry and in the studio. We wrote this song about walking into a room and being expected to sing the topline….and only that. It’s about never being handed an instrument. This song is about walking into a venue and being ignored while our male drummer gets asked about the tech specs of our set up. We wanted to explore gender dynamics, the desire to be recognized while simultaneously avoid categorizations. This song is the pessimistic counterpart to the feeling of hope that defines a lot of the record. Listen to YJSTS here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xko5J...
