I hand stitch for several reasons. I like the aesthetic a lot better, with the thicker thread it becomes a part of the look of the object, rather than just an afterthought and a fastener. Obviously the strength is incomparable. Lastly, and most important to me, is that I spent a measurable amount of time on every stitch, ensuring that it's done just right, making the item much more personal, in my mind. Hand stitching shows your dedication to your craft and your prowess as a leather crafter.

I'm old and fingers are crooked. Alot easier. I do like the look of good hand stitching though. Thanx

Hand stitching gives the piece a little more personality and I believe it makes it look more handmade

Provided that you use a proper thread material a seam done with the saddle stitch is much more rigid. It´s classy and the look of a hand sewn seam fits more to the overall appearance of a hand-made product. These tiny little imperfections are the charalters and the contribution to our art.
