"Mozambique Crisis | Total's future in Cabo Delgado"

My response to the interview in the video linked below:

Aw come on... seriously? Blaming the natural gas again? This is a consequence of FRELIMO corruption. US subsidizes small scale farmers? Nope. Never got a penny from the USG as a small scale farmer.

Mr. Hanlon wrote one of the most valuable texts in the Apartheid era with "Beggar Your Neighbor." But his bias and leftist love affair blinds virtually all he has to offer since then. FRELIMO has NEVER adequately governed Cabo Delgado, ever. They have neglected it since 1975. One might excuse them up to 1992. But they have have 45 years since independence, 28 years since the civil war ended. Natural gas is NOT the problem. And contrary to his assertion, the hydro-carbon industry DOES create jobs. Petroleum and natural gas account for 9.8 million jobs in the USA. If properly developed it will create many jobs in Mozambique. But he wants Mozambicans tied to the land, and for others to supply the resources and fertilizer? This is backwards. Prosperity is not a future in small scale farming. He never mentions education, IT or a digital economy (and the associated infrastructure needed to make that come to fruition. This is a far better path out of poverty, not small scale farming.

Leftists always want to tie people to the drudgery and low income of farming. Why? When most of the world is lowering employment in Agriculture, the ANC wants to force 1M Black South Africans into farming and Mr. Hanlon wants the same for Mozambicans. Why? Have they ever been a farmer? I have. No thanks.

The insurgency is NOT becasue of income inequity or wealth disparity. That is a typical leftist red herring. This issues have ALWAYS been present. And it is not because people are in despair over not getting natural gas spoils. There are very few spoils thus far to get.

These ghouls are doing this becasue that CAN. No proper governance, not services, inadequate law enforcement all combine to make the region pretty much ungoverned. That is why this is happening, not poverty or wealth disparity. Hanlon is correct about one thing: FRELMO is corrupt and has long neglected Cabo Delgado. That is the proximate cause.
