In the illustration for this tarot card, we create a protective shell for ourselves. Under a sky of birds and amid a landscape of palm trees, we are singing to each other about the utter exhaustion of loving someone and receiving apathy in return. This song is about how, in those moments, everything loses color and joy. It’s about loving someone and asking simply to be treated right in return. We recorded this all in one take, facing each other in the studio. The backdrop is acoustic guitar over a field recording of birds chirping outside our house in Beachwood Canyon, where we were staying while we made the album. This song acts as a question mark, at the end of the record. It’s a final moment of doubt and insecurity, after the triumph of courage and perseverance. The fight is never really over.
