Hi guys! I'm writing this post because I'm getting a lot of questions about copyrights. I usually get asked if people can use my instrumentals for their Youtube cover hoping that they would not get copyrighted. Usually the question is “maka-copyright ba ako if gamitin ko ‘to?”. First and foremost, KARAOKEYSPH WILL NOT COPYRIGHT ANYONE WHO USES THE PIANO TRACKS. However, it doesn't mean na hindi kayo maka-copyright at all. Let me explain.
There are usually two types of copyrights in the music industry, composition copyright and the master recording copyright. Iyung difference between the two is that iyung composition copyright is a copyright attached to the song itself, meaning the lyrics and the melody etc. The master recording copyright is placed on the actual track itself, in other words pag pinatugtog mo talaga iyung pinaka-song na iba ang may-ari (example: if you played Sarah Geronimo's Tala song sa background ng dance video mo)
As KaraoKeysPH, I do not have rights to the composition copyright, kasi di naman talaga ako yung nagcompose ng mga songs. For example, iyung Hindi Tayo Pwede ni The Juans, hindi naman ako yung nagsulat nun, the rights are owned by The Juans and their record label. Sila ang pwedeng mag copyright ng videos niyo for their composition, kasi kinanta mo ang lyrics na sinulat nila at ginamit mo ang melody na sila ang may-ari.
Kaya madaming nagtataka bakit naka-copyright sila when using my channel for their covers. Ako mismo, as KaraoKeysPH, I will never copyright you for using my instrumentals, kasi I'm not doing this for money. Ako, na-eenjoy ko talaga when I hear someone using my piano for their videos. In fact, every single day pumupunta ako sa Youtube and search if people have used my videos tapos pinapakinggan ko talaga kasi it makes me happy. In fact, I have a private playlist kung saan ko sine-save lahat ng mga tao na gumagawa ng video gamit ang recordings ko.
Kung ako ang bibigyan ng choice, walang copyright sa lahat cause I want music to be free. Pero for composers, they need din the income to pay their rent, musicians and equipment, kaya nila cino-copyright yung songs niyo. Sa nakita ko, usually revenue sharing naman so hindi naman kayo totally walang makukuha.
So in short the answer to the question is no, KaraoKeysPH will not copyright you. Keep singing guys :D.
