Moses Sumney

A group letter to the LGBT+ community in Ghana, in response to the raid last week and attitudes of intolerance. I’m personally waiting for the day people realize that homophobia is a white Western import that came in a boat with Catholicism & Christianity and the disease of self-hatred. But that’s a conversation for another day!Today we stand with Ghanaians on the ground who believe in progress and encourage locals & government to do the same. πŸ–€#GhanaSupportsEquality

So it was completely fine to be gay and to be in gay relationships before Christianity came to the continent, is it historically and culturally accurate? I just don't have any information there and would genuinely love to know, dear Moses. I admire your music, your craftsmanship and your humanity and your latest album is still one of my absolute favourites.

I completely support the freedom of every part of society, and so I support this message... But I really struggle with your finger pointing towards whites as being the source of hatred towards homosexuality. How about we just support each other and call out hatred for hatred, rather than pointing fingers. Sincerely, a white dude who loves you and your music.
