Perfect World announces the company's 2019 annual report and the 2020 first quarter report. The data shows that the company's gaming business performance has been very stable since 2019, where it contributed 6.861 billion yuan in revenue, an increase of 26.56%; the net profit was 1.898 billion yuan, an increase of 38.70%.
The annual report also unveiled a total of 18 new games that are being developed in 2020, and will probably land on Perfect World's rumored upcoming Steam China. The following are some of the said (updated)lineup of Perfect World's upcoming titles:
1) New World of Jade Dynasty (PC) 2) Perfect World (PC and Console) 3) Torchlight 3 (PC and Console) 4) Magic: Legends (PC and Console) 5) X-Files (PC) 6) Glimmer (PC) 7) Forsaken World (Mobile) And the list goes on for the mobile platform.
1) New World of Jade Dynasty (新诛仙世界)
This has been silent since the announcement of the game's closure for a redevelopment in early 2016. The title appeared only for the first time in 2 years in Perfect World's press conference in 2018 with an exclusive teaser trailer, before going into full silence again. In 2019, the game unexpectedly appeared again in Perfect World's promotional video in cooperation with Sina Weibo and Wei, which was reported to be a footage from World of Jade Dynasty. Some people claiming to be among the R&D team said that the game has been under extreme development for several years now, but may not be expected to come out this year.
World of Jade Dynasty appeared again in this report, and it was mentioned that the title is a client game based on the company's flagship IP "Jade Dynasty (or Zhu Xian)".
2) Perfect World (完美世界)
I guess, "Perfect World" will be the official name for "Perfect World Console Version/Remake", the title that I've been sparing no time and effort following for the past 4 years. According to some information gathered from various sources, "Perfect World" is now touted as "the next-generation action MMORPG" somewhat closer to games like "Blade & Soul" and "Black Desert". There is no detailed info on this game yet, as World of Jade Dynasty comes first according to the company's lineup.
Other major games including Torchlight 3 will be a stand-alone ARPG with online mode; "Magic: Legends" will be a multiplayer online ARPG; while "X-Files" and "Glimmer" has no relevant details yet.
Though some mobile games on the list last year did not appear in the latest list, Perfect World is not giving up with mobile games yet, as it just rolled out a list of 11 mobile titles in total in the latest financial report. The company is currently busy promoting "New Fantasy Jade Dynasty", "New Forsaken World (Mobile)", and "New Swordsman (Mobile)". A mysterious JRPG called "Codename P5" was also leaked.
Steam China
For Steam China, there was only one sentence in the financial report: "in addition, the company is actively promoting the landing of the Steam platform (in China)". Last week, there was a rumor that Perfect World has obtained the website for the Steam China. There were several relevant domain names for the Steam China and trademark fillings registered by Perfect World discovered by the netizens in China. Among them is "wmsjsteam.com" which was registered February this year and was owned by Valve.
Perfect World also mentioned the plan to launch "Jade Dynasty 2" as a cloud gaming. There is nothing much to say about cloud gaming, but the curiosity from the fans drives towards the use of the "Jade Dynasty" IP for this matter. Since the popular IP is used again for the nth time, it will be interesting to see whether it will be a standard game or a mobile game, and more interestingly, the possibility of being linked with the anticipated "New World of Jade Dynasty".
Nonetheless, I will keep an eye on the gaming news as Chinajoy2020 draws closer. Stay tuned!
