Dimitri has so much survivors guilt, and Dedue being alive is one of the few things that eases it. Dedue is also just a really good friend. I'm so glad I saved Dedue on my first playthrough without knowing how.

So on my first play through, I didn’t know that the paralogues were important, so I didn’t do most of them. I’m pretty sure I only did like…4 paralogues? One of the 4 being Dedue’s. Of course, I didn’t know that if you didn’t do his side story, he would die, so I just played the game like normal not worrying about how I might have killed him. About a month later, me and my brother were talking about the individual characters in Fe3h, and we started talking about Dedue. My brother went and said (not a direct quote because this was several months ago), “Man, it’s crazy how if you didn’t do his paralogue, Dedue would’ve died.” And I was like “WHAT?!” For obvious reasons. Now, imo, Dedue is one of the many characters in Fe3h that I adore, so the fact that I could have accidentally killed him by not doing his side story, like an idiot, sent me into a full blown panic attack. No kidding, I was on the floor just nervously laughing for half an hour. Moral of the story, do your paralogues, kids.
