If I have zero supplies, what to get. And where to focus practice. What projects to try first? Particularly for hand sewing

How exciting! I've been sewing for 50 years, sometimes historybounding (in the 80s before it was a thing) and I learn something new every time I sew!

When did you start sewing? When did you start historical/sca sewing? Is sewing your full-time job, a split, or more "hobby". Do you ever sew quilts or is it exclusively garments?

How to take things one step at a time? Iām a beginner sewist and I feel pressured to know EVERYTHING before I become a āproperā sewist - grain lines, fitting adjustments, hand sewing techniques, different machine feet... itās almost paralysing, feeling like I have to learn everything before starting! How did/do you manage the initial learning stage/your first work being so imperfect bc you canāt know everything at once?

If I had a bigger platform I would talk about what you *need* versus what is "leveling up". I've seen people think (or have been told) they *need* certain things to be successful while that item (IMO) is unnecessary or more specifically a convenience item for professional sewists and/or shared in a workroom.

How much fabric do you usually buy if you find a good deal but donāt strictly have a project in mind?

Having the motivation to finish a project/how to stay motivated and excited if you're a beginner and feel a bit daunted by it all

How to find motivation (when looking at all you gorgeous talented people doing fabulous things and it leaving you looking at your heap of slightly failed projects thinking "is it even worth trying?").

Random question about Gussets? My bf and I were talking about Gussets in welding and building. And it made me curious to know if you knew when Gussets we're first used in clothes? I know they were used in 13th century armor, with the term coined but the french, but that's all the info I could find. Anybody know more?

I know this is an old post but I donāt have Instagram so it seemed like my best bet for reaching you! I am having a debate with myself; Iām currently very overweight due to some health issues, but starting to get back to a weight my body likes better. I want to try making historical garments, but I donāt want to waste time and materials on something that will hopefully soon be too big and not wearable! Could you maybe share some tips on doing home alterations to a previous project if, say, itās now too large for your current self?

Have you ever done a video about dagging? I'd like to try but I'm worried about fraying.

Excuse me ma'am i'm making my first corset and for sizing i'm wondering what Corset W. means. As in Underbust measurements, mid hip measurement, and Corset W. measurement. this question is probably stupid but google isn't helping me. regards Alice Wilde

Hey, where did your live video go (yesterday 15th of March, 2020)? I only caught the tail end of it and therefore wanted to wait so I could see the entirety of it, but now I can't find it anywhere?

I am excited to go live tomorrow morning at 9 am PDT and talk with everyone about the beginning of the sewing journey - mine, yours, and in general š. Any particular questions you'd like me to cover?
