“Consume” is an apt word - particularly when it comes to construction jobs! Been there, done that. Over the years we have put various additions onto our house: the first one doubled the size of the house. Next was a kitchen remodel that my husband and sons did the work on. We saved tons of money and it turned out great. They did all the demolition and prep work and installed all the cabinets (and there are a lot of them!) and the flooring. We hired out for the countertops to be installed. Then we did a bathroom remodel where my husband and our younger son did the demolition and most of the prep work and the lighting, toilet, cabinet and sink installs. We hired out for all the tile work. Our last major addition was building a new family room with basement area beneath (which houses my wood shop and gardening work area). We turned our former family room from the first addition into a large dining room that already had a vaulted ceiling, fireplace and two skylights so it is cozy and welcoming particularly during holidays. My husband and eldest son pulled up all the old carpet and put down the wood flooring. The last addition consumed me because I taught myself how to use Sketchup and built that addition from the bottom up. We hired an architect, of course, but I knew exactly where every board, window, French doors, decking, etc. was to go. It consumed me, but I really enjoyed planning it and watching my ideas come to life. It’s interesting what you find during a demolition. Old medicine cabinets had slots in the back of them for the purpose of dumping used razor blades which ended up in the space between the walls. So we found lots of those and other odd things which all told a tale. We even discovered that someone at some point had left an actual unshielded live wire exposed - which didn’t lead to anything but it was LIVE - had it ever made contact with the old cast iron tub - it could have proven fatal for someone. And we learned that old metal lath filled with plaster used as a base before laying wall tiles is like concrete to break up. And, of course there are the many stories of various mishaps by the construction crews and steps we had to take to rectify them - in some cases - fixing it ourselves. But in the end - all things work out. Good luck with your remodel! And just breathe!

There’s most likely some of that in our future as well but not until next month. Hang in there!

Gotta follow your priorities. I think the bath room comes first.

I hope you do better than I did. I hired it out. Took 5 weeks and almost $50k. My mistake was letting my contractor and my wife (god love her) had no boundaries.

Tape your shower and sink faucet part numbers inside the vanity door - they have a life time guarantee, much easier to buy a stem insert, if needed.
