My opinion: OW2 PVP will be released around april 2022 to all OW1 players (or maybe with a small fee) and OW2 PVE will be released in a small episodes like resident evil revelations/telltale games do...

Based on the fact that ow 2 was announced in 2019 I think we can expect some pretty great stuff from the devs (But not the only one tank thing that sucks)

I guess I don’t understand why they’re running a competitive league before they even give the game a chance to sit and develop a meta of its own, but I suppose they value the money more

My thoughts are that "We can confirm that our plan is..." does not mean that it's confirmed to be happening. That is still just under a year away. A lot can happen in that time.

CONFIRMED - Overwatch 2 will be played starting APRIL 2022 for the Overwatch League by Jon Spector (VP of OWL)
I can't believe it, it's finally coming.
No confirmation on when the public/general playerbase will be able to play, but if pro's are able to play beginning April 2022, that means it's likely a closed beta beginning Feb/March to get teams practicing and strategizing a few months before hand!
