@MrNylarhotep

If I accidentally send my mum something that requires deep meme lore to understand, I've switched to just saying that it's a funny Internet thing

@Amethystar

My brain sometimes during a conversation when I'm trying to decide what to say next. We're talking about X, which reminds me of Y, which makes me think of when I saw B, and suddenly I start talking about how I still have beach sand in my sandals when we've been discussing the price of gas. Yah, my train of thought likes to skip a few stations.

Missed opportunity to make this a loss meme, then it could become the very thing it swore to call out πŸ˜‚

@recoverme5065

Sometimes, things are better explained in your own head than out loud.

@Snard980

Explained to entire plot and story of death note so my friend would get a death note meme I sent and honestly worth it

@edwardblair4096

This is like those Pixar movies that contain tons of Easter eggs referencing other Pixar movies, but at least the movie makes sense on the surface level and doesn't require all the deep lore to be a satisfying experience.

@thehavokproject59

This is what happens when my brother shows me a meme about a recent topic I haven't looked into. I always just stare at it as he tries to explain before cutting himself off saying "it's funny, you just don't get it". Then he shows me the most ludicrously funny thing I'll ever see

I mean... There's nothing wrong with being chronically offline

@Nikku4211

It's like a modern superhero movie with how many references there are.

@janecat8753

I guess I'm not normal then because I relate to the character that doesn't get today's memes. πŸ˜…

@xavierjohnson9089

Well, he isn’t wrong. He is the normal one in this situation.

@Naurdagnor

If my "funny haha" needs to start requiring "cross referencing" with multiple sources and explanations like this, it's become a chore by that point, not comedy.

@M___X_

I had a realization years ago that my once witty friends were no longer capable of humor without it being referential and that's when I started to become slightly anti-meme

@lisap2405

I'm apparemtly 25, but I feel like 80 when people talk about this stuff

@GlaurungTheGreat

The funny thing is that I recognize exactly which meme he's talking about 🀣🀣

@TheTehniga

I don't get this trend lately of memes that require context to be understood

@T16R0N

Well, actually now it looks funny. I remembered back in the days it was popular to know a lot of quotes of some "clever people" and it was a shame if you didn't know who and in what book told it. Now, when everything became a meme, the same thing is happening at a different level. I guess it is just a human nature to find any way to humiliate each other.

@iamaunicorn1232

Honestly I get the opposite of this more and more lately. Every time I find myself understand a meme that takes deep internet lore to understand I get the incredible urge to go touch grass
