How is this continued absurdity still being debated? Leviticus 25:44-46 is CRYSTAL clear that God set forth the rules for slavery. Except God never did. The men who wrote those scriptures wanted to justify slavery because they wanted to own slaves, and so wrote God as approving of it, just as they wrote God approving of them carrying out genocides on their neighbors because they wanted their neighbors' land (sound familiar?), even to "ripping open the bellies of their pregnant women". Yes, The Bible says slavery is perfectly acceptable. The Bible says LOTS of things, some of which need to be read in context as far as the authors being influenced by cultural norms and prejudices.

Yes. The bible condones slavery. Is this still up for debate? I thought this was settled when God told his people they could buy slaves and own them for life, and when civilians surrender to your army you may take them as slaves. Not servants. Not prisoners of war. Slaves. It cannot be more clear. To condone is to accept and allow, which God and the bible certainly did. It literally says it. You may buy slaves. You may take slaves. You may own them for life. Where's the fkin ambiguity.

Experts at twisting verses to make God sound the way they want him to, rather than the way he actually did.

I mean all you have to do is read the Bible and you’ll see that the answer is yes. Why is it even a debate? Lol

Comparing Hebrew servitude to antebellum slavery is not rational. If you could not feed your servants you could sell them to someone who could and the sale may help out your poverty. You could beat your servant for punishment but not kill them. So that tells me the beating was very minimal. Cosmic skeptic said "emancipation" would be the only option but realistically that would be cruel. They would starve or be captured by others people who did practice slavery

Yes it does. Putting rules in regulations in place for something is to allow or condone it to happen…

Owning people as property is condoned by god in the Bible. God's only punishment for a slave owner who grapes their child slave and then pokes out their eyes with a rod, is to let the child go free. Defending this is sick beyond belief.

My favorite moment in the discussions with christians is when the morality topic comes up. Invariably it comes down to slavery and sexual abuse of young girls. And yes, the bible does condone it. It lays down guidelines for these actions and at no point are those criticised, not even by Jesus.

The OT has yet to be translated. What nonsense can they be talking about? See Kamal Salibi's 4 Bible study books and blog for facts not fantasies.
