Well, I don't know if anyone will find this helpful or something, but for me the easiest way to continue the song is to make bass for the melody. You can just imagine what will go good with it and play around until you like it. And then you just build your chords on top of the bass. Cause you know the root note of it now and then just make everything else according to music theory and with how you just feel it. Of course, then you can make a different style of chords – like, arrange them differently, or make it more rhythmic, or more melodic, slow/fast paced, anything you want. And for different parts of your track you can change the structure of them so it will not sound repetitive and bland. Also, when I can't really imagine the rest of the melody I just use what I already have and make another melody based on structure of my first melody, so they will kinda complement each other...
