Today is the anniversary of the tragic passing of Sarah Hegazy. Sarah was a 30-year-old Egyptian queer feminist whose resistance centred around a deconstruction of class power and struggle, she took her own life whilst in exile in Canada.

Three years previously, Sarah Hegazy was arrested, tortured and subjected to sexual assault in prison for 3 months for waving a rainbow flag at a concert in Cairo. She had talked about how her time in prison affected her mental health.

I wrote this song ‘Dusty Frames’ inspired by Sarah and recorded this live performance at Florence Road Cafe in Brighton which I’m sharing with you today to bring awareness to her story.
