J.D. - A Lawyer Explains

There are a lot of folks commenting on the Read case. Please remember to be respectful of opposing views. Lots of folks can see the same thing and come to different conclusions. Being kind is more important than being right.

@ironutes

Not in a murder trial when being right is a matter of spending a lifetime in prison or not.

You’re right! I totally agree with you…and also feel completely flabbergasted and frustrated when someone sees the same thing (specifically in this case) and somehow manages to come up with the opposing view on it. I’m extremely peaceful, but i must say this case makes me very uneasy, not only because of how poorly people in power can behave but *people not in power can support it*. Overall I have no real hope for justice left in this case. Maybe that’s why everyone is so sensitive about it— maybe they feel the same kind of dread 😟

I think in this case there's more than enough of reasonable doubt, not to mention very well founded questions of evidence tampering. I've watched so much US true crime and trials, and I've seen defense teams spin all kinds of stories. But in this case the evidence itself just doesn't seem to support the accusation, and then when you add to it the well founded questions about tampering and the behaviour of the officers who were destroying potential evidence of their own involvement... yeah, it's looking very concerning for anyone interested in real justice. And they don't have good answers to the tough questions about destruction of evidence, witness tampering etc.

I'll just say it; I think she's guilty and have thought so since the beginning. Defense has come up with some real dingers. My opinion and I'm entitled to it. Peace and love.

Being right is being kind! this feelings crap needs to end. The only thing we owe each other Is Truth and Honesty. What people do with that is up to them. We should never be manipulated by any else’s feelings.

I can think of several trials where people took a side from the very beginning and wouldn't accept evidence that challenged their position. The KR case isn't a cut and dried "slam dunk" in which the prosecution doesn't have to try too hard to get a conviction. The best approach for me when it comes to trial watching is to imagine myself as a juror.

It's very disheartening that you can't even discuss opposing views with people anymore without someone very quickly resorting to name calling. You're absolutely right, being kind is so important. That's why there's only one or two creators I can watch trials with, bc everyone else just lets the chat descend into madness..

AARCO testimony is allowed by judge. The 2 sides get to duke it out in front of the jury which is common sense. My gut says Karen Reed is found not guilty bc of reasonable doubt.
