To remember is to bring to mind, not to forget. In other words, God won't throw them up in your face or taunt you with them. So they might as well be forgotten.

Yes, but with a clarification (*): "remember" here, as is a reference to the wording in scripture where God makes His promise, means "hold in regard for judgement", which is also how I choose to interpret it in the context of this question.
