The New York Times

In March, the American government deported more than 200 Venezuelan men from the U.S. to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador. The New York Times interviewed 40 of the men who were imprisoned. They described being beaten, sexually assaulted by guards and driven to the brink of suicide. A team of independent forensic analysts examined their testimony. The experts called it consistent and credible, saying most of the acts described met the U.N.’s definition of torture. Read more: nyti.ms/4nTYMEq

@Iluvpie6

There are a significant number of Americans who still support this. We live among monsters

@aPsychoCult

Americans are paying $$ to El Salvador prison for them to do that.

@OWqueensara

And remember that the vast majority of these men had no verifiable criminal record at all, not that this is acceptable to do to criminals anyway, but their justification falls flat.

No one deserves this. Send Trump there to experience what he has set others to experience.

NYT if you actually want to do good by this story, make it free and readable to anyone. (Edit: it was not free when this was posted, now it is. Hurrah)

The thing that everyone forgets... i mean everyone.... illegal immigration is a CIVIL offense.. that means it isn't criminal. Therefore, it is usually penalized by a monetary fine, not prison time. Why isnt this getting more press?

Reading those descriptions on the pictures....that is so inhuman. I feel absolutely sick. NO ONE deserves this.

Absolutely horrific and unnecessary. How can humans treat each other like that? How do you become that violent? It’s so dark

They were SA'd in a room called "The Island". I'm sure there's no corelation to Epstein at all. 🙄🤬 These men deserve justice, just as much as the women who we SA'd by Epstein. I can not believe that America did this to human beings. This regime needs to be tried for their crimes!!!

I don’t care what ANYONE says. Humans do not deserve to be treated this way. Whether they were born in this country or not.

As a US citizen, I’m disgusted by this. I think this will be looked at as a stain one the United States, and a regret that we wish we could take back that being said I can confidently say that many US citizens agree with me and our speaking out protesting and doing whatever they can to make sure people know they’re not alone and many Americans still believe that a core American value is supposed to be human rights and that people deserve to be treated like humans and the same dignity that you would want your family to be treated with. I’m sincerely sorry to all of those that are being treated unjustly even if they’re here illegally I don’t think that means they don’t have any rights as a human being created the same way, all of us were at the very least lying to them about where they were going and dropping them off in a country that had nothing to do with them on top of putting them in a prison is unjustified and should’ve never been able to happen. I really hope that somehow we learn from this and there are changes made to where things like this can never happen again. Again I’m sorry for everything that has happened and they’re all in my prayers.

Even if they were criminals, this would be unconscionable. And they weren't. Some of them are barely adults

America is selling people to prisons. Selling people is wrong. This is all wrong.

Reminder to MAGA Even if they are "illegals", illegal immigration is a misdemeanor, not a felony This type of punishment is excessive
