James Brown performed for the soldiers at Ft Jackson SC around the time he made this quote, December 1990. I was there, as a young private E-1 and finished my basic training there in January 1991. Great kickoff to an interesting career in our nation's military. Mr Brown put on an excellent show...he did it to death!!

I saw him in concert while I was stationed in London in 91 or 92, can't remember! When he strutted across the stage and hit the notes... Superhighway from coast to coast... Even the British sang Living in America! Wonderful American treasure, along with Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Muddy Waters, and all of the godfathers of rock, R&B, and blues!

Yes the one the only Godfather of soul. Mr James Brown. The hardest working man in show business. The one man our Godfather when he spoke everyone listened. Much respect to him. For he is that one and only Godfather of soul. Gone but will never be forgotten. That's for sure. RIP.

This is 1 man who had many careers. Mr. Please Please, The Hardest working man in Show Business, Mr. Cold Sweat, Soul Brother #1, The Godfather of Soul, The Boss, and many others, all in one package. He helped develop syncopated soul, early funk, and obviously Rap/Hip Hop. I dont think that anyone else, (well, any single artist, because the Isley Brothers certainly can do just that, as Ronald Isley is still around.) can lay claim to that.
