That's wrong, there were no Apollo missions at that time of the 1st episode.

it was the fictional version of a Mercury flight. Tony flew in a single person capsule and though Project Mercury had ended in 1963 after only six missions, this would have been more likely to be used for the TV show than a Gemini flight which would had two astronauts. IDoJ first aired in late 1965 though production started a few months earlier. The Apollo program had not started and was a three astronaut capsule.

It was a black and white on TV which was 60s Apollo was a three man crew major Nelson flew by himself. And the rocket that took off had a mercury capsule on top. Get your facts straight before you come up with these brainstorms.
