I was a snowmaker for 9 years and did 12 on lifts at the ski resort. I was in charge of the night shift snowmaking operation for years until i had a medical episode and had to take a hiatus. We had 5 200 hp vertical pumps for water and pumped water up to 415psi to prime the miles of water lines. Main lines were 10inch pipe. Hydrants for snowguns were reduced to 2" pipe with quick disconnect hoses for air and water. The air system was a series of diesel air compressors depending on how many guns we were running. Tried to keep it at 120psi. Miles of 6in" plastic pipe we used to plastic pipe weld saddled off to 2"pipe. Then had to keep the air and water from intercepting each other and pushing past seals which would eventually deteriorate in snow guns. Rebuilt plenty of hkd snowfuns over the years. The colder it is the more water you can mix into the air/water ratio relative to the humidity. We also had electric fans that ran off 480v 3 phase. Unfortunately our old ski resort involved a lot of rephasing three-phase electric pedestals from old snow guns. In my 9 years i went from manual valve operated fan machines to completely automated programmable self thawing fan snowguns. Technology has come a long way.
