I leave the do not disturb tag on the door for the stay. Then leave the towels in the bathroom, etc. Skipping that room for 3 days is my gratitude to them.

You should tip those who clean up after you. I used to work at a hotel, and sometimes we would help the housekeeping staff after a 500-room checkout. You wouldn’t believe how some people left their rooms—it looked like animals had stayed there, not humans. During my trip to Turkey, I stayed at a hotel where I tipped a housekeeping employee. He prayed for me in a way I’ll never forget. He raised his hands and said, “May God always be happy with you and fulfill all your wishes.”

My husband and I write a thank you note and leave the money on top of it. Housekeeping has a tough job. We try our best to leave the room as clean as possible.

I do. They work hard. And I have the money and hope it makes their lives a little better.

If we are able to get housekeeping on a regular basis I do tip. I usually leave a small tip for a one night stay. For hotels that now only offer housekeeping once every three days I tip myself for having to make my bed and fetch clean towels.

That's such a weird concept... but I'm from a european country so I guess I have different tipping standards.

I'm an Aussie and we don't tip in Australia because we pay better wages.

I know it's not the fault of the workers, but I'm sorry the cost of housekeeping should be part of the cost of the room - that's the service your paying for as part of the hotel experience. Hotel Companies - Pay your Employees a fair and decent wage!

I typically leave the DND sign on my door for the full length of my stay and just find a housekeeper or call the front desk if I need something. We always put our trash in the bins, even taking our own trash to the larger trash cans if we run out of room. So no, unless we are leaving behind a big mess for some reason or the staff went above and beyond, we typically don’t leave a tip.

Nop! The idea of having to tip simeone for doing their job is ridiculous.

They get paid an actual livable wage in Australia. Exceptional service, yeah .. I may do...but it's not expected or required by employees so they can eat and pay rent and utilities, not have to choose 1 of 3. Unlike some tip based country .

One of the many jobs mom worked was cleaning hotel rooms. She taught us to tip housekeepers.

I was a hotel maid for awhile. I tip. Make sure you leave a note that the money is for the maid. Where i worked, if there was money lying around we couldn’t touch it unless there was a note.

No. I’m paying a couple hundred a night for bare bones room the hotel can afford to pay their staff.

Employers must pay them better. We customers are not responsible for tipping poorly paid workers. They deserve a better living wage, tipping culture sucks because it's an additional cost on the consumer.

I do. They don't make much money and I have been fortunate in life. A few extra bucks in their pocket helps them a lot more than it hurts me.
