Why are cats kidneys so prone to failure? Edit to add that even with proper diet and lots of hydration, cats seem to still suffer from kidney issues.

Why do most vets only promote dry diets as to wet?

An outdoor cat showed up last July and we started to feed it. We got him TNR'd and released him back into our yard. He got wet food only and we started inviting him in - scent soakers everywhere. Sometimes he'd stay the night but cried to go out in the morning. December of last year he came back inside and we saw that he was really sick. Took him to urgent care then hospital care. He pulled through but we found out he had FIV. That night was the night he stayed indoors forever. He still looks out the same door that used to let him come and go. How do you know he's happy to stay inside? How do you know he's happy in general? I don't want him to feel trapped or depressed. He is the only cat in the house. We love him so much and we just want to know that he loves the indoor life. Thank you.

I'm a stray magnet! I also am a poor stray magnet. How can people like me help these poor unfortunate animals. I can't turn any animal away. Nope. Never. Any advice on how to find low cost health care? Can you recommend a good care plan for when you can't always take them to a Vet? Like what is the most important things we can do for them at home if we have limited funds. Most important preventative care? What over the counter meds are ok to use, which to avoid? Thank you for the Q & A, Jackson. Much appreciated topic. Michi -Pennsylvania

I would love to know more about recent updates and advancements regarding FIP and regulation changes surrounding one of the drugs used to treat it.

Talk about chin acne. I am 70 years old and had cats all my life. I have not had an outdoor cat since 1970. All my cats have been pampered inside. Both rescues and purebred animals. I fed a raw diet for 20 years to my three Wegies. Always used ceramic or stainless bowls. And yet it seems most of my cats have had some degree of chin acne. I'm always told it's because of plastic dishes. I don't use plastic dishes for me or my cats.

Any advice for cat dental health would be great! Is there any alternative medicine that can help with dental health issues, like something that works for humans, but can work in cats as well? (e.g. propolis drops, sage tea, etc)

Additional questions I have would be: Is a yearly check up necessary for every cat? How often really should you be brushing your cat’s teeth? And are the teeth cleaning products to put in the water for cats actually a good alternative?

Are the feline pheromones for "happier" cats healthy? Eg: Feliway plug in air diffuser.

What to look for when choosing pet insurance? Also what to look for in a vet?

A few years ago my cat’s back randomly started twitching/spasming. On Halloween night of all times (he’s a black cat.) He was probably 3 at the time. He also got zoomies randomly and would hide, which wasn’t like him. I took him to the vet the next day and they only told me he might have anxiety problems which is causing it, but that was really just a guess. In my opinion, he doesn’t have a stressful situation since he likes living indoors and there’s no pets or kids living with us. They recommended the feliway plugin which ended up working like magic. His back doesn’t twitch anymore which is great, but I always wondered if a vet could elaborate on the condition and why it happens. Thanks in advance…I know it’s a long message.

Arthritis in older cats. What is the best way to help the cat. Does acupressure give any relief?

I’d love a lil blurb about the treatability of hyperthyroidism. It’s common and I’ve seen so many kitties not get adopted or pts because owners don’t understand what it entails. My girl lived to 18 with hyperthyroidism :)

Do the benefits of annual dental exams/cleanings under anesthesia outweigh the risks of going under general anesthesia?

Is flea medicine necessary? because both my cats were allergic to it and they were scratching for 2 days the spot where I applied. I cleaned them and stopped using Frontline. I find it strange that if it’s “harmful” to human touch as stated in the manual, why even apply to another living being? Do you recommend homemade anti-flea solutions? And if so, who can you recommend we could follow?
