I've seen some second-hand sellers put up their Strava mileage on a shoe along with pictures as additional indicators to their "state". Some I bought were older models which I use as everyday go to work type shoes or shoes I just wanted to try out at a fraction of the cost I was prepared to pay even on sale (Ultraboost 5 and Pureboost 23). For dedicated training, I think I'd prefer a "new" pair.

Yes. I heavily look at the photos(even ask for more if needed) I have found many great deals on shoes that were almost brand new!

Some of the threads on the rubber outsole are still solid and has the ridges on them then get it. Try stretch the upper and look at the sides if there are signs of the glue wearing off if not get them. I’ve had some less under 100km mileage which is nothing as it’s usually the shoe break in period

Yes. Found a hardly used pair of Adios Pro 3s on eBay. Doing a good chunk of my training in them.

New Balance in US offers “New Balance Reconsidered,” reselling returns in either excellent or “as new” condition, so takes risk out of the equation while significantly reducing cost. On has something similar, Onward, great option as On running shoes are expensive and a bit of a roll of the dice, so at “as new” prices, the risk is somewhat ameliorated.

No, I can't trust the mileage as there is no clear indicator. But I would buy "Like new" shoes from Amazon warehouse, considering these might be really new shoes that were only tried once and returned. Can be great deals.

Maybe, if I were in a pickle for race day shoes I suppose I would. the wear on those isn’t much, my alphafly 2’s looked like that after about 4-5 runs which is nothing, that was a great find!

Yes, there are a ton of great buys as long as you pay attention to the seller’s rating and they provide good pictures and descriptions. I bought a pair of Ghost 16’s with no noticeable wear for $45 last year. The seller bought them to run a 5k and then ditched them afterwards… I’m guessing they had less than 50 miles on them. Did I need another daily trainer… no. But at $45 it allowed me to try the DNA Loft v3 foam at roughly 1/3 of retail price.

Yep. Have bought Hoka Cielo X1s from eBay and Brooks Hyperion Max 3 from Vinted. Both around half RRP, both have been fantastic. However, I would only buy nearly new. Casing point, my Superblast 2s have about 500k on them, are unmarked with very little outsole wear and could pass for 100k.
