Definitely going to try this on a subsequent playthrough. But even at regular game speed, the shield/gun/melee combos filled the void that quickswapping left for me at least

On a genuine side note: they really should make the swap speed faster. Specifically swapping off of the super shotgun after shooting, the fact i need to wait for 3 animations before i can do the glory kill thingy is stupid (Reload, throw shield, swap weapon). I always tend to throw my shield when i swao cuz i usually swap to the impaler which gets MASSIVE damage from hitting something with the shield, but this? It makes combo-ing virtually useless and detrimental. As sad and fucked as it sounds, the most optimal way i've found to kill pretty much everything is to exckusively use a maxed out super shotty and just spam it + parry at insanely close range. Most enemies get into a certain loop (Mancubus always does the slam after hitting them point blank with SS) so you literally just shoot, parry, shoot, parry, shoot, parry. Some shield bashes and melee's inbetween for style/distance/hp/ammo and thats it. The gsme is fun, but imo needs more polish in the combat aspect

I just started but I'm currently running doom the dark age on my first playthrough on the hardest difficulty with Max speed and it's a blast but I want it to be harder I want there to be more enemies also your quick step is The shield bash that sucker has ridiculous range once you get the swing of it

Interesting on the duality of the takes of dark ages, many seem to be calling the combat very one note but i just dont see that, i apprechiate both eternal and dark ages, both have their strengths, but i just cant see how dark ages is any more simple than eternal considering alot of that is just hotswapping with the rest being movement, meanwhile dark ages is mostky parrying and counter attacking (with movement usually being zips instead), overall the arguments on this just doesent make any sense
