We had the great pleasure of meeting you and Gary while on a cruise which included Japan. It was a brilliant holiday with many highlights of the far East. We have since returned to Japan and have taken the opposite route to you, sailing from Japan, crossing the Pacific to Alaska and Canada. The Pacific was like a pond for the entire crossing and we cruised serenely for six days at sea. Incidentally, we flew east to Japan, sailed east to Alaska and flew east back to England. Not only did we cross the Pacific, we circumnavigated the globe !

Never been to Japan but would love to visit someday. My dad visited Okinawa when he was in the Merchant Marines as a teen and learned a little Japanese. Love seeing your videos and posts!

Yes, we were lucky to travel there this year and after a few days we joined our cruise sailing on the Diamond Princess with only one missed port, Toba, we visited Kochi, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Kobe, Busan and Shimizu with cruising through Kanmon straits. It was very good. Plenty of time in each port, despite some drizzle in Hiroshima, the May weather was perfect. We had Japanese language lessons, Japanese art class and enrichment sessions while onboard. We hope to visit northern Japan on a future visit. We were booked on the Pacific Circle 2027, and we would have had the experience of crossing the Bering Sea, but plans changed so may be another time.

I would love to do that route, but in the opposite direction, from Japan to Alaska!

Have been on a cruise to Japan a couple of times - loved the place and more so, the people. Imagine walking past stores in the mall with the shop people bowing to you as you passed by? 🥰

We’ve been there four times over the past 23 years. Last time in may. I am always as amazed as of the first time. We are thinking of going back in 2028 but this time on a cruise.

We would love to hear your thoughts on a transpacific vs a transatlantic crossing (aside from the obvious). A transpacific is very close to the top of our list. We typically do the transatlantic sailing every year to avoid flying to Europe. A fabulous way to travel. We have nothing to base this on, however, we surmised that a transpacific is a voyage you'd do once or once in a while. Whereas the transatlantic is something you'd do more frequently as it's not as dramatic with the changes in time / seas are typically calmer / easier ports to get to and from. Thoughts? Enjoy Nova!

I have been to Japan two years ago and really enjoyed the trip. Would you mind sharing the cruise line and appx cost for your trip? Any information you could share about the best planning would be helpful!

Tips For Travellers
After 6 days at sea crossing the often bumpy Bering Sea from Alaska , 7 time changes, losing Tuesday when crossed the International Date line, have now arrived in Japan on #SilverNova. Kushiro is the first of 8 ports here. I have only been to one of them (Hiroshima) before - so lots of new places to see and experience. I really love visiting Japan! Have you been? Or on your bucket list?
