Reiki used to be sacred; meaning it was taught to a carefully selected few. Unfortunately it has become too commercialized just like a majority of other things. A while back, a college classmate asked me about studying the practice. I explained that she should find someone who takes the time to educate students in the background of Reiki and the symbols. It should take at least six weeks. I once dated someone who took him a year for levels one and two. Unfortunately there are many teachers who are just teaching to make a quick buck. That is not okay. I once interacted with someone who only received level one (healing for yourself only) and was giving demonstrations, working on children and animals without getting level two attunement. Make sure if you decide to receive the training or services that the practitioner is treating it like a sacred practice. I have heard of those who received their training and attunement online. When I hear that, I get warning bells and my solar plexus goes tight in knots. That's my internal warning system going off. I recently found out my Reiki lineage and am sharing my lineage because I am grateful to be blessed, not only to have been taught by the proper teachers, but also be able to help others heal themselves within. If I were teaching Reiki, I would be very selective on who my students would be. Same if I were to become an IET master. That is why the organization of Integrated Energy Therapy is selective about who learns and teaches the healing modality, because they don't want it to be saturated with those who are coming from a place of ill intent. My suggestion with anyone who is seeking any type of spiritual services, holistic medicine, or alternative therapy: make sure that the person is treating what they offer with gratitude for being of service and that it is sacred to them. You will notice a difference.
