Korean(Hangeul) is a language where once you learn the basic consonants and vowels, reaching the stage of reading words aloud isn't too difficult. Since each consonant and vowel has a fixed pronunciation, as long as you memorize the rules, you can quickly learn to read words as they are written. I highly recommend learning at least up to this stage! Even just being able to read song titles out loud will be fun and rewarding. If you feel like learning more after that, go ahead—but if not, that's totally fine too. However, since you've already started reacting to K-pop, why not take this opportunity to learn the basic pronunciation of another language? It will be a valuable and enjoyable experience! (Plus, Korean culture is something you can see frequently in various fields of global culture these days—making it an even better reason to give it a try!)

I didnt try learning it but after watching so many kdramas, at some points i would catch myself watching shows without subs and not even realizing it till im halfway in! And now i can understand upto 90% of the language and can read and write, without officially studying it. Thats how i learned English too, even though there is still room for improvement.

It's not the first time in history that people learn a language because of music, many Russians learned English because of The Beatles, I heard a guy say in an interview that he learned English from reading the lyrics on the Sgt Pepper album cover.

lol, on a 20 day streak on duolingo. For me it is more that artists would go live on instagram, so I join to watch, then realise I dont understand a word...

I have inadvertently started to learn the Hangul characters, by simply watching too many lyric vids! 😂 Thankfully I have a few Korean coworkers and acquaintances who are kind enough to confirm/correct my understandings and pronunciation. Think I might be at a point to go more structured, maybe. Or maybe just start watch Korean shows 🤷🏼

I’m honestly terrified of learning another language 😅 It seems like such a huge feat especially when you have to change the way you grammatically think

learning at least how to read and pronounce it is SUPER easy, took me less than a day, and it is mildly helpful, you can memorize and learn common words/phrases- The grammar however is an entirely different beast

Only took me a few hours to learn hangeul but oh my the language is killing me 😭 I stopped learning from books and jumped straight into dramas and variety shows. After 10 years, I can understand idols' lives and simple dramas without subtitl

Tbh with korean songs and contents you can get pretty decent eng translations readily available, if u know where to look. Cant speak for other grps but that is the case for bts. I have however considered learning Japanese since its impossible to find good eng subs of their Japanese songs and contents 😭

If I need to read a text I have to learn the language enough - and use every tool available - to grasp the meaning. And after that I leave that language until next time. I am happy when it is a language I know.

K-Pop fans! Have you thought about learning Korean? I've been thinking about learning myself so I could better understand the groups I love.
