@krisrk1

I don’t have a story. Just wanted to share a personal experience. I tried Digimon Card Game for the first time and absolutely love it. Videos of the card game always intimidated me because it looked complicated. But I finally tried and it was very easy to learn. I love the back and forth play the game has. I now play it with my children.

When I was a tween I was looking for an anime, and my mom suggested that I try watching Yugioh. And since then I have loved it and collected so much merch of the anime as well!

So I've been playing Yu-Gi-Oh since 2005. I was a kid but had some older friends that just gave me some cards, and occasionally a deck. So there was a dragon pile, machine beat down, and even those lovable Elemental Heros. Now I'm a true Hero player at heart but I love to play many decks. That's where the topic of this story comes in being a long time player trying to enjoy this card game. I myself have found those pet decks I love no matter their flaws. Just a few being Venom, Resonators, Egyptian gods (yes all of them in a deck), and even Monarchs. Like many before me decks can be fun to play or nice to just look at, perhaps just having the lore being the reason we play the decks we love. But you see I'm not immune from the intrigue of the meta. I've been trying out meta decks the last 4 ish years and have found some of the dreaded meta fun. This being somewhat odd for me now I certainly can't say I play the meta well I can see the appeal of these meta decks. Even just to "dip a toe" as it were into the meta sometimes both enjoying and loathing a meta has become my default instead of just a hate for it. I guess what I'm getting at is that being old players sometimes this game just doesn't feel like it's "our" game anymore. But with experimenting and trying to adapt to modern Yu-Gi-Oh I've found that the game has indeed changed. Just as we've all noticed the fusion deck becoming the extra deck, or the extra monster zone just sort of existing, and the pendulum zone/monsters being a thing; finding enjoyment in the modern game isn't super easy but it's worth the effort in most cases. I mean I never thought I'd be a person who plays Yummy, Yubel, Snake eye, or Tenpai . . . but sometimes they release something like blue eyes support that is actually good and that just scratches the old itch we all sorta have for this game. Thus I have found my enjoyment in playing this modern or post-modern Yu-Gi-Oh but having a few good friends to play sure does help. Thanks for reading if you did! ā¤ P.s. Why is Ojama lime not real yet? Is he too useless to exist? Maybe he is too useful? Only the Ravedactyl knows.

I once entered in a tournament at locals around toss format, the prize was a yugioh mini fridge with kaiba and yugi on each side. I was playing barrier statue stun, and after a few rounds I get matched up with an alterguist player that I was warned by other players liked to slow play on purpose. I disregarded this and went through the duel thinking id be able to go fast enough to make up for it and win regardless of the time. The alterguist player indeed slow played pretty hard. Nearing the end of the round my opponent played a winged dragon of ra sphere mode to my field, while he's at about 2000 LP. I use his sphere mode to invoke the ancient chant and summon Ra with 4000 atk, he is taking his sweet time thinking about each action to kill the time, and eventually I make it to battle phase, which he uses lost wind halving Ra's atk to 2000, and he continues to stall before I can declare an attack until time is called. Bro tried to tell me he technically won but he'll give it to me this time, when I clearly had game out on the field. The moral of the story is dont be afraid to call a judge even after the new time rules, and also sometimes it can be super badass to reenact anime moments in a tournament even if you dont win the whole thing, especially if they dont see it coming. (I didn't win that fridge unfortunately lol)

I think you guys should talk about your favorite era of videogames as well as genres. A simple psa on how the rest of the APS guys are doing what they're busy with wouldn't hurt as well we miss them all 😢

Fake cards in middleschool. This is a Yugioh story from my middleschool. Back then we used to have a Yugioh play group of friends, and often we also played with a couple of guys that already were on highschool. One day one of our classmates that wasn't part of our play group (who I'm gonna call "B") appeared with some fake ygo cards and wanted to play with us, he didn't knew anything about the game so we kinda let him do what he wanted. The funny thing it's that at some point he activated a card Wich he called the "fire circle" Wich it's text said "choose one effect" and then listed 2 effects for him to choose from. He proceeded to ignore those 2 effects and said "I choose to inflict 8000LP damage to you!" Wich we found hilarious, but rather than correcting him we admitted defeat and proceeded to gaslight him into thinking he was a very skilled duelist who found a very broken card. After that we brought B to play a game with one of the highschool guys we played with Wich I'm gonna call "C". At first C didn't wanted to play with B because he had fake cards, but after talking for a bit we convinced him to play. So the duel starts, C was playing battling boxers and he takes the first turn and then comes the turn of B, who proceeded to play his fire circle and chooses the effect of dealing 8000LP damage to C. C tried to explain that the card didn't meant to do that but B was firm with the effect that he chose. Me and my friends started to laugh very hard and C started to become very angry since B wouldn't listen to him, he then shouted at him and proceeded to grab his cards and leave the place.

Gundam card game has a big event in Dallas this weekend, and will be cool to see the turnout when compared with other top card games.

Nothing super interesting, but I think it’s funny. I mainly play Yugioh casually, and I’ve played MTG a couple times. A friend built me a Krenko Commander Deck, but I had never played it until this past week. A friend of mine that also plays Yugioh (and is a more competitive player) also plays MTG. He wanted to play against me with his Eldrazi (did I spell that right?) deck. Even with never having read a majority of these cards before, I still won by a large margin. It was fun! Don’t be afraid to play other games too

I know I'm late to submit for this week's pod but do you guys have any good and bad stories of old videogame/movie rentals growing up as a kid? When I was younger, rentals were the thing that made my weekend when my parents got one and it always sucked when you got a bad game/movie you were stuck with on your days off from school. I would love to hear both of your experiences and to hear about things that have stuck with you in a positive way or pissed you off even to this day all these years later. Lol -oscar

@andorichards

Hey Paul and Alec, I may of missed the deadline for this but here’s my hot take. Going off your recent video with Battle City accurate decks with their anime effects. With the current state of yugioh and power creep continuing to rise, I feel like even if you gave the Egyptian gods their full anime effects they still wouldn’t stand a chance today. What’s your thoughts.

Maybe talk about some of the pokemon controversy with announcing a DLC for a game that isn’t even out yet? Seems to be a hot topic in the community right now

Has Alec talked about the latest digimon banlist? Also curious if either of you tried the Time Stranger demo. Besides digimon stuff, there is the Borderlands 4 boss news

I feel out of touch with the gamers that lament that "gaming is dead" or that "there's NOTHING to play anymore!" There are so many great games being released all the time now that this hyperbole is getting out of hand. I'm chalking it up to nostalgia gamers who miss the carefree times associated with gaming growing up than the medium itself. It's not totally unfair, but it can get grating. I've tried going back to older games (those I haven't played and revisiting others that I have) and there's a lot of clunkiness in old games that just wouldn't fly now. I just hate this seal of immunity granted to older games and media in general that negates any chance for discussion as soon as something critical is uttered. Anyways, this was just a ramble. Have a great week boys.
