When I was a child my parents gave me an album to organize my drawings, that way I knew when there were too many and decided myself what to do with them. I gave them only drawings I specifically made for them for special occasions. It worked out pretty well and I still have some of my most treasured drawings with me

Not a mom, but an auntie. This made me realize I have an entire box of pictures from my nephews (some of them pieces of paper with like two scribbled lines on them) that I've been hoarding for months, taking up space in my closet. They don't even remember that those pictures exist but I've been holding on to them because I'm a sentimental maniac 😂. They're going to the garbage can tonight! Thank you for this message

Okay hear me out: my son will be 11 in a few months, outside of a few specific things that are special to me, I let him decide what pieces of his art or coloring pages to throw away. It's actually kind of a good bonding moment every so often, we go through a stack of old papers and coloring pages and school projects together and talk about lots of memories and what projects we will do in the future. Additionally though I think it teaches him that we don't have to keep everything just to have it since he has a natural inclination to hold on to things. It's really helped him learn how to part with things.

I needed this. I have boxes of art I cant bring myself to get rid of. Some are literally just lines!

My dad worked in underline construction when I was little and when he passed a few years ago we were going through his things and found an entire tote - which was a lot for him because he lived of hotels mostly - completely full of drawings I had made as a small child. Made me cry ugly tears lol

I think a lot of people need to hear this. Especially first-time parents. I remember thinking I was the worst mom on the planet when I threw away anything my children made. I had BOXES in my attic of scribbled on papers 😆

As someone who works in childcare, I needed to hear this, thank you! I love your channel and never stop being you!

As I sit here with a drawer filled with every paper my kindergartener and first grader brought home this entire year, I indeed needed to hear this.

Crayola getting rid of cerulean crayons might be the reason they'll need therapy, though! 🤭 But for real, they bring home SO MUCH PAPER from school - I try to take a "view it and release it" approach

I agree, thank you. I'm teaching my 9yr old this too. It's been a work in progress, but it's really coming along great now. We remember the memories it made, because that great memory will always be there. So I guess we kinda give it a goodbye in a way. Taking about what happened at that time, the laughs we had, the spills the dog made at times, or art she walked acrossed. It ok to let things go, because nothing can take that memory from ya. I have one kid and the papers stack up! Stay strong mamas, we got this! 🥰💪

I actually really needed this. I find it so hard to throw out my kid’s art and he’s only 4! Its so hard to think of what to get rid of

Even as an auntie and a teacher with students who call me mom, I needed this. I take my duties very seriously and I tend to overdue the things I feel like my mother lacked at, and making & keeping happy memories is definitely 1 of them.

Portfolios are a young artist's first responsibility. I still have some of my drawings from twenty years ago. Plus helps them reference the most important muse there is.

Alternative idea, make collages and/or paper mache projects with some of them. Turn a few hundred of the best ones into just a couple actually neat projects. Recycling and you get to keep a lot more of them in a sense

Auntie here. I needed to hear this 😭 I've had so many pieces up on my walls cause I didn't want to hurt their feelings by not keeping it... I can't bring myself to throw them away yet- I still keep most of it in my memory boxes though. That's the compromise I made with myself to keep my space looking more like my own cause I needed it.

Thank you. I needed this..I have 29 years worth of damn scribbles from 3 kids. We recently had a flood now I have to throw away so much junk that I saved. I thought I could salvage it.. but I can't and there is no reason too...Most of it is crumbled, faded and I have no idea which child drew what. The really important stuff is safe away from flood water

My step mom used to take all me and my siblings “art pieces” and scan them with her printer so she could have digital copies of everything. I found it really sweet growing up. There’s only so many places you can hang drawings and school projects. But your computer can hold so many.

Also: a picture of the art in an album is a great way to keep these things if you want to without collecting random scraps of paper.
