My Retro Life

Hey guys! In case you haven't seen it yet, I just dropped a new My Retro Life episode all about Jurassic Park Games! Watch here 👉🏻 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8neH2...

I had a blast reliving the memories of those games and the phenomenon that was Jurassic Park in 1993.

It got me thinking about this image from my Dad's home video camera. That’s me and my buddy Albert back in 1993, playing the Jurassic Park game on Sega Genesis. We’re controlling the raptor—arguably the coolest thing you could do in a game back then—and I just love what this image captures. This was exactly what gaming looked like for me growing up: two kids on the carpet, one controller, taking turns, helping each other through a one-player game. We’d trade off every time one of us died, shouting strategies and cheering each other on. No online multiplayer. Just real-life co-op in its purest form.

And if you look closely? You’ll see my whole childhood game collection on that little shelf by the window—Sega Genesis cases stacked on top, and if your eyes are sharp, you’ll even spot some Super Nintendo and Sega CD in there too.

That Genesis Jurassic Park game? It was my favorite of all the JP games from that early ’90s era. After seeing the movie (and being scared out of my mind!), I just had to relive it again—and the video games were the way to do that. From console to arcade, Jurassic Park invaded our homes, our imaginations, and our playgrounds. It was everywhere.

Thanks for watching and supporting My Retro Life—and for remembering these moments with me.

@MrKSardonicus

I love how relatable your videos are and watching them brings me so much joy. I too lost my father years ago and we had so many memories with video games, movies, music, and even comic books. I seriously have a lot of respect for you and your hard work. I truly wish you these best in your future endeavors my friend.

I've been reliving these with the JP Collection on Switch. The Super Nintendo version was a regular rental for me.

I was a little younger than you and the JP Genesis game was super scary to me. Especially the levels playing as Grant where the T Rex shows up!

Jurassic Park and Alien 3 were the last two movies I saw with both my parents in the theater. My mom got up to go to the bathroom or something in the beginning of jp and broke her foot getting back to her seat in the packed theater. She held it down and sat through the movie and we went to the er after

Speaking of multiplayer id love to see a video and your take on the device sega genisis had where you could play games online with other players. Not many knew about it and wasnt that successfull but was inovative and ahead of its time.

Tyler, I wonder. Were you still obsessed with Jurrassic Park well into your PS1/Dreamcast arcs? And if you were, did you play Dino Crisis or hear about it?

I did get the notification on my phone but saving it to watch on my OLED TV from a proper couch. With all the production value going on here I no longer feel the tiny screen does it justice! Hate to admit it but I often will listen audio only as I have YT premium and will listen in the car. That drive in Houston traffic gets real boring.
