Is The Last Dragon worth reacting to?

@whosaidthat84

Of course! Just think of this one question while watching: who's the master?!

@Vendetta9000

I remember it, but never saw it. Just done a search, didn't realise Berry Gordy had something to do with it. Going by the screenshots, it looks like Funkadelic goes Kung Fu: Electric Boogaloo! Also, Vanity...

I think 2016's "The Mermaid" is great and worth reacting to. Very funny movie with Stephen Chow as the director. I believe it was very popular so you may have seen it already.

Hell yes. I don't recall any Chinese dialog, but this movie is an 80's classic, the music alone is worth it. You have to look at in the context of everyone my age (born in the 70s), was a teenager in the 80s watching Hong Kong action films, including Bruce Lee, and this film is a total homage to that, combing 80s Kung Fu themes, Blaxploitation, and the 80s 'coming of age' kids flick. Note: It will be cheesy to a first time adult, the movie was made for kids/teens and fans of cheesy HK flicks. That said, Taimak still does interviews, and you might be able to get him to interview post-review.

I don't remember it having much Chinese, but it was funny. It's important culturally because it both honors and mocks the American fascination with Asian culture, specifically martial arts. IMO the immediate inspiration for the film was the success of the 1974 Carl Douglas song, "Kung Fu Fighting." I believe the film would have done better 5-10 years earlier when there was a greater American fascination with Asian martial arts films.

"Yes please" should have been "Sho nuff!" But of course, you wouldn't know that, yet.

Watch 'Year of the Dragon' (1985).

I haven't seen it in over a decade, but remember thinking it was an interesting film. I'm not sure it would be a good fit for you, however, as I don't remember much Chinese language or culture as the main character is a young American man living in Harlem...

Always

I don’t remember seeing it. If it’s a campy put on like Big Trouble in Little China I could get behind it but if it’s an adult version of Karate Kid I don’t think I’d be interested.

Are you taking about Raya and the last dragon or berry gordy's the last dragon? The first is about south east asian culture. The second is a blaxpoitation martial arts film.

You should react to HBO's 'The Warrior'. "Set during the Tong Wars in late 1870s San Francisco, the series follows Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy who emigrates from China in search of his sister, only to be sold to one of the most powerful tongs in Chinatown." "It is based on an original concept and treatment by Bruce Lee, and is executive-produced by his daughter, Shannon Lee, and film director Justin Lin." "American English, Cantonese, Mandarin (rap)" Not sure what 'rap' signifies.

@QuizmasterLaw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo3fbGvGN20 I think this is! It portrays 1960s era sino american culture and includes Bruce Lee. I figure you and/or your boyfriend might enjoy it from a cultural or language perspective. I never saw this when I was a kid (it was before my time and i'm not chinese) but I'm super interested in what you guys might think of it since you are culturally advanced!
