I live not far from the village of Falkland in Fife, Scotland and when it was announced that Argentina had invaded Falkland we all thought that's just weird until they added Islands.

My dad served on Hermes but left the navy in 81 so just missed the conflict. He loved his time on this carrier

Honestly would love to see more of the GR3’s which are somewhat forgotten when channels talk about air power in the falklands imo

In 1982 I was on a Navy shore base and had been following what was going on with "Argentinian scrap dealers" on South Georgia with interest (The Guardian, seemingly alone, had done a good job reporting it). When the invasion was announced one of my shipmates (a 17-year-old lad from Arbroath) exclaimed "They're off the West Coast [of Scotland]!" Of course, I put him right but that's how well-known the Islands were. Within days we were all drafted and on our way south. Over 30 years later I was eventually diagnosed with PTSD. I got a medal though...

They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn, At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. 🌺

Falklands War, never understood the reason for calling it a conflict

Haven't seen the angled end of runway on a carrier before. Is that needed for the Hermes specifically?
