Here’s my review of the Zoo Tycoon series: - Zoo Tycoon (2001) is like Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2 but it takes place in a zoo. Later in 2002, the expansion packs are available for dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures in Dinosaur Digs and for marine creatures in Marine Mania. The Ultimate Collection expansion pack is available in 2003. - Zoo Tycoon 2 (2004) is a sequel to the previous game and is the first game to include 3D graphics. Each animal has its own biome that they belong in (alpine, boreal forest, desert, grassland, savanna, scrub, tropical rainforest, temperate forest, wetlands, and tundra). This is also the first game to feature a Zoopedia, an encyclopedia will give information about anything. As the player’s zoo becomes popular, the zoo will increase its fame rating, accessible pathways, a wide variety of happy animal species in well-kept exhibits, and the guests’ enjoyment of the zoo. In October 2005, the Endangered Species expansion pack was released and includes rarer animals, including the Komodo dragon, scimitar-horned oryx, and orangutan, and added new transportation forms for guests. The African Adventure pack released in May 2006, added 20 new African animals and included jeep tours, new maps based on African locations, desert-themed buildings, and lizard live food. Marine Mania was released on October 17, 2006, featuring 20 new aquatic animals, marine options, marine shows and several other gaming features. The expansion also includes 4 new aquatic biomes, marine plants, the ability to build tanks, and animal shows. Extinct Animals was released on October 17, 2007 with 34 animals, plus two bonus animals. Paleontologists can be hired to find fossils hidden underground, or players can go first person to find them. The tools are a fossil finder gun that beeps. Like the previous animals, they get sick with diseases. Due to the extinction of the diseases, the player must utilize the Extinct Research Lab to investigate and find the cure. And lastly, the Ultimate Collection was released on September 30, 2008 and it contains the original game and all four expansion packs, similar to Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection. - Zoo Tycoon (2013) was released on the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 while an updated version (Ultimate Animal Collection) was released in 2017. The key differences between the One and the 360 versions are the animal species, with 101 species for the One version and 65 species for the 360 version. Some animals include lions, tigers, bears, elephants, rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, giraffes, antelope, chimpanzees, lemurs, capuchins, sloths, meerkats, mongooses, iguanas, snakes, tortoises, flamingos, peafowl, and macaws. The updated version introduced new species of animals from South America and Australia, including jaguars, cougars, llamas, alpacas, kangaroos, porcupines, capybaras, anteaters, tapirs, agoutis, armadillos, koalas, wombats, possums, crocodiles, Tasmanian devils, numbats, platypuses, Gila monsters, falcons, owls, cockatoos, large snakes, water snakes, desert snakes, etc. Unlike the previous ones, the Xbox games didn’t feature zebras, gorillas, giant pandas, ostriches, emus, camels, seals, sea lions, walruses, deer, caribous, moose, orangutans, bison, African buffaloes, flying foxes, bats, wallabies, cassowaries, lorikeets, wolves, true foxes, coyotes, dingoes, hyenas, penguins, toucans, puffins, alligators, chameleons, pheasants, vultures, eagles, freshwater fish, tropical fish, sea turtles, dolphins, jellyfish, sharks, stingrays, octopuses, manatees, orcas, beluga whales, pilot whales, narwhals, and herons.
