If Balon is in command that means no Iron fleet. The Iron born aren’t fit for siege warfare which is basically what the whole war becomes later on. We all saw what happened at Blackwater Bay. House Greyjoy doesn’t bring enough to turn the tide. But then again, Winterfell isn’t sacked by Theon so that alleviates some issues… not all but some.

An alliance between the North, Riverlands and Iron Islands with the Vale and Dorne being neutral towards them would be the strongest force on paper but I remember Tywin saying Stannis being more dangerous than all the other Kings combined or something like that.

It’s honestly not even fair how big of an advantage, the northern alliance in iron islands have. Of course, when you don’t bring nuclear bombs into the topic. They have a fleet that is fighting for the top position with only one other fleet since the royal Fleet is pretty much shattered at this time and any time it would take to build it up, means that the iron islands fleet gets built up as well. The reach Fleet doesn’t want that smoker unless they absolutely have to so they’re not going to fight each other which means that their Navy is pretty much on challenged. Ground-based military is possibly even better even though they aren’t the largest army. There’s not a doubt in my mind that the second that those two factions align together end smack the west something fierce little finger is going to pull a little finger and bring the Vale into the northern alliance, because the slippery bastard goes with the winner, and he takes the crazy Lysa with him, wherever he goes. With a North, the Riverlands, the Vale and the iron islands, all working together and move mutually agreeing to make sure that they all stay independent. You bring, possibly the largest group of military commanders together, both land, and Sea against Stanis, alone, and Randall alone with maybe some help. and the second that winter hits if you’re not flying a nuclear cargo jet it’s pretty much wraps. On top of that when John eventually brings the wild wings from the far north to keep them from getting wiped out he’s going to have a lot more support, and the Wildlings might even be brought all the way down into the other territories to unleash on the southern kingdoms. the northern and iron alliance pretty much just stops on anyone the second day group up. Sorry if this is long, I just wanted to cover all bases and make sure it’s clear why I think they would absolutely dominate the field. I hope it all makes sense.

Honestly might be Mace Tyrell ironborn sack lannisport and other stuff in the westerlands but what happens when euron kills balon would he go to attack oldtown like the books or what? Euron can't join the Lannister because of the attack on lannisport. And the north is still in a very powerful position witch means something like the red wedding is much more unlikely almost impossible without the ironborn weeker Lannister stronger north, depending on when the ironborn join the reach might just stay neutral
