I've never watched the show and cannot say how good or bad it does it's rep but i did feel very very off when the "I'm a surgeon" meme went around and a lot of people jumped in to say "well this isn't good representation because I'm autistic and i don't have meltdowns like this" like hey what happened to if you met one person with autism you met one person with autism"? given the circumstances of getting to be a surgeon it'd probably be unrealistic that someone would be keeping their job as one for a long while after such behavior and all but the criticism for that scene went past that just to say it's not accurate portrayal of autism and a lot of people just used it to mock that behavior, giving some aspie supremacy vibes as well when it came to "no we don't act like that" comments. yes this has been on my mind regularly since whenever the hell that meme happened.

I started watching it before I got my diagnosis (I was a big fan of House and wanted to see what David Shore would do) and really enjoyed it so it was very disheartening when people started dunking on it and saying it was bad representation. I know it's not perfect and I know a neurotypical actor portraying the most "uncomfortable" parts of autism has some implications that are difficult to navigate, but I feel it contributed positively to get neurotypical around me to destigmatize autism and I saw my own mother make the journey with the characters on screen towards not infantilizing Shaun and trusting him with the space to grow into an independent adult while understanding the accommodations he needs to thrive. It's also a very inclusive show all around, there's good representation of many different communities which is nice to see considering how backwards and hateful rethoric has gone back into the spotlight as of late.

@Emmphamous

Can you review the neurodivergent coded doctor on the max show The Pitt. Haven't seen any autistic creators talk about that new character

@Necro352

He doesn't eat dino nuggies and Macncheese every meal, so that's clearly not an autistic character
