How can shipping be so cheap from China, but if I send a package via Australia post, it's $25? Seems to stifle local businesses and promote dropshipping

Because shipping from China is in bulk or riding on big company's big shipments. Aupost is expensive because labour in Australia is expensive. You can also ask why China's buyer's agent is $3k and AU is $15k. We have minimum wages etc etc, so when you make more, you need to give more back too. It doesn't "promote" dropshipping but it make sense to do so. Just like with property investing, when you're experienced and u see a deal, you know it's a deal.

China is considered a developing nation, so in order for world wide shipping to happen, other countries subsidise parcels under 2kg.
