Winding Road Crochet

What do you do when your wrist starts hurting when you crochet?
~
I love cotton yarn during the summer but this year it is starting to make my wrists hurt.

I rest and do stretches for shoulder, wrist and fingers. Tightness in the shoulder can cause wrist pain, too. 🥰

Hmmm. I typically don't have any pain from crocheting, but this afternoon my forearm and wrist were sore. And I've been working with cotton a lot this week. Interesting. And it was some intense crocheting, doing the brim of a ball cap, LOL. I took two Aleve, massaged it, and now several hours later it is fine. I'm back to acrylic this eve, so I'll see how it feels tomorrow, after the meds have worn off 😉

I wear a rigid wrist brace (it’s my left wrist that gets sore) and it lets my wrist recover while also teaching me how to crochet with a straight left wrist.

I put on a brace. It stabilizes my wrist and keeps the tendons and joint aligned. It’s also good to take frequent breaks.

Try getting one of the ace style bandages for wrist supports. I use that and try to loosen up my tension and reduce speed to help as well. You move slower but can keep going.

I have the start, carpal tunnel… It was recommended I wear wrist braces at night. I works for me. I can also crochet wearing them but prefer not to.

No one here has mentioned diclofenac/Voltaren gel; which can work wonders on hands and wrists and help reduce inflammation in those areas. I'm a nurse practitioner, so wouldn't recommend this if it weren't safe or effective! It works just like Aleve, Motrin, or Advil, but since it is just rubbed on peripherally, very very little of it gets absorbed systemically, so it is even safe for those who can't take NSAIDs, like after gastric bypass surgery (like myself). Give it a try!
