“When the pigeons return, it feels like home.”

It’s this feeling that draws Loubna Hamdan to her rooftop each evening as the sun dips behind Beirut’s concrete skyline.

Here, she is greeted by dozens of pigeons circling above. It’s a place where the 36-year-old office worker has found quiet refuge — a love for birds first introduced to her by her husband, Ibrahim Ammar, who has raised them since childhood.

Together, they scatter food, provide water and keep watch for any bird that seems weak or injured, attentively tending to the winged creatures.
