Learning to play an instrument is like learning a new language. When learning to play an instrument, you learn to read the music, fine tune your hearing to the notes, and also learn how to sing.

I played bass as a teenager, and have been trying to teach myself guitar by learning bits of songs with tab. I can keep a decent simple drum rhythm, but I think anybody could do that.

A guitar player and also a luthier so I build my own guitars which is almost more fun than playing them!

But, I did just recently purchase an acoustic/electric violin, so I hope to start learning soon.

I play piano, alto sax and flute. My husband was a professional musician in Nashville for 30 years. He plays guitar, fiddle, mandolin, dobro and petal steel guitar. His unbelievable talent truly amazes me!

My grandmother started to teach me piano when I very young and I played violin in elementary school for three years and guitar in high school. Five decades later I can’t even read music anymore.

I grew up playing the violin. Really focused on singing, did my exams and learned to sight read. I did abit of guitar and learned basic drums. Then I did a performance diploma in college where I learned music tech, music business and law and learned to play the piano. I did the diploma with the intention to go to music school in London. I then fell pregnant cos I'm an idiot and never made it 🙈 I fronted a couple of metal bands for a while and worked in a recording studio but I stopped about seven years ago. I miss it so much. Music used to be my life and now it's gone completely it's crazy

I cannot just pick up any instrument and be a virtuoso right off the bat, but I am a violinist, and this means that I understand what it means to be musical and play something beautifully. Once someone teaches me how to play something, it won’t take me long to play an easy piece for beginners rather nicely.

I can’t read or play music. Yet, I’m able to write songs from scratch. No samples or loops. Music, lyrics, melody all of it. The draw back from not actually knowing how to play any instruments is that I’ve never developed a good ear. It’s hard for me to tell when someone is flat or sharp. That sucks when I’m producing vocals. I get around by hiring someone with a good ear to tell me if the singer is on pitch, or not.

I liked playing my Yamaha electric hollow body but unfortunately arthritis in my fingers killed that .

Everyone can play an instrument just depends on how good you are asking them to be

Kind of. I played flute for years but I don’t remember much. It’s easier to pick it back up though.
