Sounds like a good idea, just don't buy American weapons, buy European ones.

yes. i wish the answer was no, given that i despise both the military and the "defense" industry, but europe not making sure it's able to protect itself from russia, given the current state of the world, would be foolish

As long as it's spent on domestic industry and not buying overseas kit, yes

The tax burden should fall predominantly on the rich, very rich, and above. Not the poor. But the taking the money from overseas aid, sucks.

Right, let's get ahead of things: "Mr. Woolley, are you worried about the number of young people without jobs?"

Edit: all the below aside, I do very much appreciate the idea of the tldr audience giving their opinions, sounds like an interesting idea! Just as a note on good polling: afaik it's generally good practice to have a neutral option and/or an "I don't know" option. Polar answers only give pollsters polar options, which might distort the results due to people voting for the "next best" option or not voting at all.

Yes, BUT only if funded through taxing the super rich, not cutting what little is left of public services.

I’m usually anti war and I dislike that it is necessary but currently the increase is a good idea. Europe has been invaded and more countries have been invaded while the US is at best a very unreliable partner and at worst an adversary and threat themselves.

I'd ask: what are you doing to secure Britain's nuclear deterrent from dependence on a counter-aligned US?

I feel the money should be spent incorporating the knowledge learnt from the Ukraine war especially about drone warfare. And importantly having a minimal but scalable weapon/drone manufacturing. We also have to ensure our analogue backup systems are still usable.

Looking back at the time we had with the peace dividend at the fall of Soviet times, we really didn't use the extra resources actually available well enough. I just hope that we realise who has our backs and can be trusted enough to secure our safety now, so that we can return to more secure times. I think our best bet is to go all in with Europe now. They're our neighbours, our colonial times have been rightly rejected, and now we have to be friends, to support each other, and work through our differences like adults.

For too long Europe has been looking down on Americans while at the same time relying on their protection. It's time to take responsibility for our own safety and independence.

Yes, but not by using austerity or cuts to services. it should be funded by taxing the wealthy

I honestly don’t know. That would be interesting to see how many would answer the same.

There is a huge shortage of defence staff with many approaching retirement age- it’d be interesting to understand how that void will be filled and how they can make defence jobs attractive to new and current staff. Let alone looking at skill sets in more innovative areas eg data protection, cyber attacks etc How are they investing in their people ?

Yes but as much as possible should be spent in the UK. No more buying off the shelf weapons from the US where the jobs and benefits go to unreliable and ungrateful bullies. Even if it costs more or delivers less capability sovereign capability is key. 5 years ago I thought it was mad to invest in OneWeb going up against SpaceX Starlink. Now it seems premoniscient

Sorely needed and long overdue especially with how anemic our defence and small arms industries have been allowed to wither to over the past 20-40yrs

Especially with Trump being so comparatively pro-Russia, it's probably best to keep our allies on good terms with a good military right now
