I used to think earwigs were the dumbest and most impractical existence ever. Then I saw a couple of them fly and they're like dragonflies with a guillotine on them.

“They’re so cute! Save the earwigs!” - Jeremy Elbertson But seriously, thank you Tierzoo for teaching ecology in a fun way.

I've watched the insect tier list so many times. It's a comfort vid at this point.

I’m terrified of earwigs so I definitely listened up on that point. The intimidation was working perfectly on me the whole time

@Scarifar1

I rewatched the insect tier list just the day before, so the knowledge was still fresh in my memory.

Can you do a video on specialized carnivorous caterpillars or an overview on annelids? Love your videos!

They also can be used when males are fighting for dominance. There is a small mutation chance that the pincers can be asymmetrical, which seems like a disability on the surface, but when fighting another male, those with the asymmetrical pincers have a chance of impaling and thus killing their competitor in a fight.

So, me and earwigs have a troubled past, it started when I found one inside of my gas stovetop. Still don't know how he ended up in there, but he was dead and gone already by the time I found him. Next moment I encountered one was when I was over at my mom and she gave me a coffee. There was a weird, wriggling thing in my coffee, can't say I was too thrilled to discover it was an earwig. Now, at this point I think I'm being haunted by earwigs, and when about a week later one pinches my ankle while cycling I was done. I made a prayer to the earwiggian gods and apparently it worked, because they haven't shown up in any weird way again.

I thank Rain World for getting me to learn this indirectly

When I read the question I unlocked a random memory of myself giving a presentation on earwigs back in elementary school...

I got it right, because I remembered learning months ago that earwigs are creepy, yet harmless. Great, now I want a pet earwig…

Earwigs are creepy looking but harmless. Kind of like my friends in highschool. Look scary but will help you get a job, a house, and fix your car if you need help.

I've never understood how bugs have a concept of intimidation. Idk animal instinct/intelligence is fascinating but also hard for me to fully wrap my head around

One got in my work shoes a bit ago and it waited until I got to work before pinching me. Pulling it out and discovering it was an earwig was a mildly traumatic experience.

They may be harmless, but they were still one of the scariest fuckers as a kid.

Apparently also used to fold their wings to fit under their wing cases. And yes, earwigs can fly.
